Duties

The Assistant Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is responsible for: ensuring a continuum of service to all clients through the inter-operability of all CCG resources within the Region and nationally; developing and implementing service delivery strategies to optimise the cost-effective delivery of CCG programs and services (e.g., human life and safety, marine environmental protection, maritime security, and the safe and expeditious movement of waterborne traffic through Canadian waters or those under Canadian jurisdiction, platform support, etc.) to all DFO and external clients, stakeholders and partners.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university
OR
Marine Certificate of Competency issued by the Canadian Coast Guard or Transport Canada Marine Safety or equivalent
OR
Minor War vessel or Surface Ship Command Qualification as a Regular Force Officer or Class A, Class B or Class C Reservist in the Royal Canadian Navy

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Significant experience, at the executive level, in managing multi-faceted national programs and in implementing national policies in a highly operational context

Significant experience in dealing with politically sensitive issues and providing strategic advice to senior management or officials on program implementation

Experience in developing and maintaining good working relationships, conducting complex negotiations with diverse clients, industry, partners, as well as with unions, non-government organizations

Significant experience in managing human, materiel and financial resources.

Note: *** Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities which are normally acquired over a period of five (5) years***
