In collaboration with management, unions and employees, implements and coordinates the departmental occupational health and safety program. This opportunity of employment is a permanent need in Edmonton, Alberta. Please note that a pool of qualified candidates will be created and can be used to fill similar or identical positions with various tenure in PSPC. This pool may be used as well to fill a permanent position in Public Services and Procurement Canada in Vancouver, British-Colombia.
The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignment, secondment or deployment under exceptional circumstances in order to protect employee's indeterminate status.

EDUCATION
A Secondary school diploma or employer approved alternative, such as an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to Occupational Health and Safety.
EXPERIENCE
1. Recent and significant experience* in administering occupational health and safety programs in a multi-disciplinary organization (eg, policies, procedures, action plans, audits)
2. Recent and significant experience* in carrying out inspections related to occupational health and safety in an operational workplace
3. Recent and significant experience* in providing advice and guidance to various stakeholders with respect to the occupational health and safety legislation, regulations and standards
4. Experience in delivering training sessions
*Recent and significant experience is defined as approximately three (3) years of experience in the last five (5) years.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE
1. Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II, Health and Safety Legislation Governing Federal Jurisdiction Workplaces and the Relevant Codes, Regulations and Standards.
2. Knowledge of occupational health and safety management systems.
3. Knowledge of the principles of prevention in occupational health and safety, including Accident Investigation Practices.
4. Knowledgeable in the Implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Program, including injury/illness compensation/claim processes.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Recognized Post-secondary degree, diploma and/or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
CERTIFICATION
Health and Safety Professional Certification or Designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional and/or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE
1. Experience in managing accident and return to work files (Claims Case Management practices) as it relates to the Federal Government.
2. Experience in conducting Ergonomic Assessments.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to move freely, quickly and without assistance over great distances and on surfaces that are sometimes uneven.
Ability to climb and descend stairs, ladders and scaffolding freely, quickly and without assistance.
Reliability Status security clearance
Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada
Ability and Willingness to travel, and work extended hours as required
Ability and willingness to work long hours of overtime or an irregular schedule, on short notice (in the event of an emergency)
