Work environment

The position is located at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria, B.C., where you will be joining a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for Canada’s National Forest Inventory and National Forest Information System. We work closely with provincial and territorial governments. Your job will involve collaboration with professional colleagues across Canada to address challenging forestry data issues. You will be working with other new hires on the establishment of a new, national forest field plot dataset, integrating field plot data collected across Canada by various agencies into a single, analysis-ready, open data resource, which will be used for forest research and cumulative impact assessments.

Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A graduation with a degree in forestry or wood science from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a graduation with a degree in a related science from a recognized post-secondary institution combined with acceptable forestry experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience compiling and analyzing forest field plot data;
Experience using SAS, R or equivalent to analyze forest field plot data;
Experience preparing technical documentation, reports or papers for publication.
