Plans daily and on a longer term basis, the layout of field or allocation of G.H. and growth chamber space. Supervises and manages the work of subordinate staff as well as students and contractors. Consults with scientific and /or technical staff to identify land, G.H., Growth Chamber, land for construction projects in the current and succeeding years. Monitors and identifies problems in field operations, land, greenhouse or growth chamber operations and discusses concerns with researcher and/or technical staff with experiments or projects.

The Ottawa Research and Development Centre was established in 1886. It is located in Ottawa, Ontario at the Central Experimental Farm. It is one of the original five experimental farms established by the Government of Canada in 1886 under the Experimental Farm Station Act to conduct research in support of Canadian agriculture.
The Centre leads Manitoba to Prince Edward Island in crop development, targeting corn, soy, spring wheat, winter wheat, oats and barley. It also supports research conducted at other research centres in the areas of food safety, mycotoxins, and biocontrol.
The Centre's main research focus lies in three areas:
•Crop genetic enhancement and genomics
•Biodiversity of vascular plant, fungi and bacteria, and invertebrates
•Integrated assessment of long-term environmental effect of agricultural practices
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION :
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in plant science, agriculture or related field OR a combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the management, operation, and maintenance of a modern greenhouse facility.
Experience in Integrated Pest Management practices supporting the production of greenhouse crops.
Experience in the use of e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications.
Experience in the Supervision of Staff
ASSET EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in horticulture, plant sciences or agriculture
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in horticulture or greenhouse management.
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience with management of a modern greenhouse facility in an agricultural research environment.
Experience in working with grain and oilseed crops.
Experience in data collection and data entry related to greenhouse operations.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
