Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill indeterminate GL-VHE-10/SP-VM-10 vacancies in Newmarket and Ottawa, Ontario. A pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill the same or similar positions at the GL-VHE-10/SP-VM-10 group and level in Newmarket and Ottawa, Ontario on an indeterminate or term basis.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Possession of a valid 310S automotive service technician certificate or equivalent (for equivalency assessment information, please visit the Ontario School of Trades, Trade Equivalency Assessment at http://www.collegeoftrades.ca/trade-assessment)

Possession of a valid 310T truck and coach technician certificate or equivalent (for equivalency assessment information, please visit the Ontario School of Trades, Trade Equivalency Assessment at http://www.collegeoftrades.ca/trade-assessment)

English essential

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of the principles to carry out repairs of various automotive components.
Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques on current vehicles (domestic and imported)
Knowledge of a vehicle’s electrical system, including computerized engines, transmissions and vehicle components

Ability to repair a variety of motor vehicles including the use of appropriate tools and equipment
Ability to communicate orally
Ability to communicate in writing

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to an Ontario Class G Driver’s License
(A driver’s abstract with no more than 2 minor violations in the last 12 months
*A copy of the driver’s abstract will be requested during the assessment phase and may be requested again upon successful completion of the security clearance process for the successful candidate.)

Daily wear of protective clothing and safety boots

Willingness and ability to lift and carry objects approximately 88 lbs (40 kg) on a regular basis
