Intent of the process

The objective of this process is to fill a position of indeterminate biologist (species at risk) in Iqaluit, Nunavut, and an indeterminate biologist (species at risk) position in Yellowknife (NWT).

A pool of qualified candidates will be established in order to staff similar positions of different durations (appointments for specified or indeterminate periods, acting appointments, extensions, assignments and secondments) with various employment conditions in Iqaluit, Yellowknife or Whitehorse.

Important Note: The preference for position in Iqaluit will be given to Nunavut Inuit.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in natural, physical or applied science or a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Note:
1. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EX1-Experience working effectively on environmental protection or wildlife issues with at least two of the following groups: Indigenous people, government, regulators, environmental non-government organizations or industry.

EX2-Experience leading or participating on multi-jurisdictional or multi-disciplinary teams or partnerships focused on environmental or conservation issues, wildlife, habitat or ecosystems.

EX3-Experience analyzing and interpreting information on ecosystems, habitats or species.

Conditions of employment

•Willing and able to work overtime, irregular hours and weekends on occasion.
•Willing and able to travel within Canada, including travel to remote locations in Northern Canada.
•Possess a valid driver’s license.
•An approved Health Canada medical.
•Willing and able to travel in small aircraft, boats, or off-road vehicles.
•Willing and able to work in adverse environmental conditions.
•Willing and able to obtain and maintain First Aid Training certification.
•Willing and able to obtain required safety training/certifications and implement safety protocols.
