Information on accommodation for persons with disabilities
Plans, coordinates and facilitates skill development through to certification of various programs to enhance the reintegration potential; establishes and maintains a positive employment environment with offenders. Performs functions and instructs offenders on duties related to CORCAN Farming operations such as composting, animal husbandry, crop production, vehicle repair/maintenance, dairy production, breeding horticulture, greenhouse, livestock operations including dairy goat and dairy cow and other related activities.
Working with offenders in a Correctional Institution. The Correctional Service Canada (CSC) as part of the Criminal Justice System and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable safe, secure and humane control. Staff will be working in an environment where there is continuous offender contact.
To establish a qualified pool of candidates to staff the positions within CORCAN Penitentiary Farming Operations at Collins Bay and Joyceville Institutions.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in animal husbandry.
Relevant experience in agriculture land management and crop production for livestock operations and sale.
Experience operating and maintaining farm vehicles and equipment.
EDUCATION
Relevant post-secondary school education, for example an Agricultural related diploma/degree or Veterinary Technician diploma.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in staff supervision.
Experience providing guidance and instruction to individuals who have limited experience in the area.
Experience working with individuals who face multiple barriers to employment (for example individuals with mental health needs).
Experience working at an operational correctional site (institution or community) relevant to the position being hired.
Experience in modern livestock handling techniques with dairy cows.
Experience in modern livestock handling techniques with dairy goats.
Experience in a large-scale commercial crop operation.

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of current methods, techniques and practices of animal husbandry (day-to-day care, breeding and raising of livestock).
Knowledge of crop production and agriculture land management.
Knowledge of CORCAN’s mandate and CSC's Strategic Priorities.
Knowledge of Commissioner’s Directive 735 – Employment and Employability Program as well as other policy relevant to the position.
ABILITIES
Ability to organize workload and determine priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to produce marketable agricultural products in the most cost effective manner.
Ability to motivate, instruct and supervise others who have limited farming experience.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Employees must be able to work shifts, including variable hours, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an Ontario Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate of Qualification.
Reliability Status security clearance
Prior to appointment, candidates must possess a valid unrestricted driver's license that conforms to provincial or territorial requirements. As a condition of employment, candidates must maintain a valid unrestricted driver's license throughout employment.
