Intent of the process

ANTICIPATORY: The intent of this process is to fill up to 3 positions (term or indeterminate) in the National Capital Region. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, acting extensions, assignment, secondment) and language requirements/linguistic profiles (English essential, Bilingual imperative (BBB/BBB)) and/or security status (reliability, secret) within Environment and Climate Change Canada across Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

ED1. Graduation with an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position (such as environmental, conservation, biological or zoological sciences).

Degree equivalency

EX1. Recent* and significant** experience applying innovative statistical approaches using advanced statistical analysis software for the analysis of complex biological data sets.
EX2. Recent* and significant** experience working with teams to design and implement surveys for wild animals.
EX3. Recent* and significant** experience providing statistical advice to managers or scientific professionals on topics such as survey design, sample allocation or data analysis.
EX4. Recent* and significant** experience writing and publishing scientific papers involving the design of wildlife surveys and analysis of wildlife data.
* Recent experience is defined as experience acquired within the last five (5) years.
**Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of at least three (3) years. If experience cited was acquired within a degree program, applicant must demonstrate autonomy of actions and decisions.

AEX1. Experience designing surveys for birds and/or other animals of conservation concern in challenging physical environments such as geographically remote areas.
AEX2. Experience evaluating survey designs through the use of data simulations.
AEX3. Experience using hierarchical Bayesian models to analyze wildlife data, taking into account spatial and/or temporal structure.
AEX4. Experience analyzing demographic data for wildlife using approaches such as mark-recapture models, stage-based models or integrated population models.
AEX5. Experience leading teams to conduct field surveys for Canadian birds.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Willing and able to travel, this could include travel to various locations in Canada and internationally, on occasion.
• Willing and able to work overtime, irregular hours and weekends on occasion.

• Willing and able to travel to remote locations and by small boats or small aircraft.
• Willing and able to work in adverse environmental conditions.
• Willing to obtain and maintain a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) for non-restricted firearms.

• Possess a valid driver’s license.
