We are seeking a research affiliate with expertise and experience in bacteriology and molecular biology to provide assistance in a molecular phytobacteriology lab. Tasks to be completed by the successful candidate include but not limited to preparation of culture media, culturing bacteria, DNA extraction, PCR amplification and sequencing of multiple genes and genome, and management of BigData.

Currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a 4th year Bachelor’s program or a Master’s program from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in: microbiology, molecular biology, biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or related science field.
Experience* in microbiological laboratory manipulations and DNA-based techniques.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of general bacteriology, media preparation, culturing bacteria, molecular techniques such as PCR and DNA sequencing of gene fragments and genomes.

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
Ability and willingness to work with bacteria in the laboratory, growth chamber and greenhouse at Ottawa.
Ability and willingness to work with bacterial products, chemicals and pesticides.
