KEY ACTIVITIES FOR VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION CASE MANAGER:

Identifies CPP Disability clients with the potential to return to the work force, assesses their individual needs, prepares a plan outlining the services required, conducts a cost benefit analysis, and fosters the clients’ cooperation and participation.

Leads teams involving third party service delivery providers, social workers, and health professionals, to collectively work together to ensure that all possible support tools are put in place to assist the client, as well as to facilitate client progress.

Establishes eligibility for continuing Disability benefits; and refers clients to reassessment as required.

Identifies and negotiates shared funding arrangements, with internal and external partners (workmen’s compensation and insurance companies).

As required, participate in special projects for regional and national headquarters (RHQ and NHQ) in developing new initiatives, policies, procedures related to vocational rehabilitation

Intent of the process

A fully assessed pool of qualified candidates will be established. The pool may be used to staff similar positions within Service Canada, Ontario Region

EDUCATION:

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the General Intelligence Test 320
(the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma).

Proof of education will be requested at a later date. Proof of name change (e.g. Marriage Certificate) will be required for anyone whose proof of education is in a name other than the name currently used.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Recent* and significant** experience in all aspects of vocational rehabilitation case management

Experience in using technology (email, word processing, internet and presentation software).

*Recent is defined as experience gained within the last 2 years.
**Significant is defined as 6 months cumulative experience within the last 2 years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or other acceptable specialization

Note: A baccalaureate or higher level degree (Master, Doctorate).

Candidates with foreign educational credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. You may consult with the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials at www.cicic.ca for further information.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in providing community-based vocational services to persons with a broad range of physical or psychological disabilities.

Experience in partnering with other vocational rehabilitation service providers (e.g. Workers Compensation Boards, Insurance Companies, Federal and Provincial Governments and private agencies).

Current Registration as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) or Canadian Certification in Rehabilitation Counselling (CRCC)

Experience in the Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD) adjudication process.

Experience in managing contracts with external service providers.

Experience in program or project management.

Experience in using the SAP Financial Program.

Please note that candidates will be assessed on all essential merit criteria prior to being placed in the fully assessed pool except for the official languages requirements of the position that may vary according to the position to be staffed. Qualified candidates will need to meet this essential merit criterion prior to being appointed to a position.

A written exam, an interview and reference checks will be part of the assessment process. Please note that the assessment will only be rescheduled under exceptional circumstances:
- Illness (a medical certificate will be required);
- Emergency Circumstances (verifiable);

Failure to attend the assessment without good reason will be construed as a withdrawal from the appointment process.

Selection of candidates may be based on asset qualifications, operational requirements, or the organizational needs, depending on the requirements of the specific position being staffed.

Candidates must meet each essential qualification to be appointed to the position.
