This position is responsible for supervising a team that performs day to day preventative maintenance and inspections, as well as repairs on a variety of mechanical building systems. The incumbent will allocate work to a team of multi-disciplinary facility workers and may be required to act as the liaison between AAFC and trades personnel. The incumbent will require the skill of using a variety of diagnostic equipment and to also have an understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) principles.
As one of the 20 research sites in Canada, the Lacombe Research Centre is located in Lacombe, Alberta. The Lacombe site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position works in conjunction with a staff of 4 other employees to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Lacombe Research Centre.
Anticipatory: To staff a full-time permanent Assistant Facilities Manager.
A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a permanent full-time or part-time basis or on a temporary full-time or part-time basis.

Completion of a Post-Secondary College Certificate or Diploma program, or apprenticeship accreditation program, resulting in certification in at least one of the following:
• Journeyman Trade Certification in a Building or Mechanic Trade, or
• Building Systems Technician, or
• Facilities Technician, or
• Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Technician, or
• Civil, mechanical, or electronic Technologist, or
• Stationary or Power Engineer or
• Professional management certification in a program relevant to facilities management such as: BOMA Maintenance Management Professional, or Asset Management Professional, or acceptable equivalent or
• Engineering degree in a discipline relevant to facility maintenance
OR an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience supervising a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience maintaining various building mechanical systems.
Experience inspecting building operating systems and structures.
Experience planning, scheduling and coordinating the work of service providers responsible for operations and maintenance activities that involve a number of trades.
Experience planning and coordinating construction projects under 25K.

As the Assistant Facilities Manager, there is a requirement to work on call responding to urgent facility operational problems 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule and to respond in a timely manner, within 15 minutes of being called out to work.
