Western Economic Diversification Canada is inviting applications from a highly motivated individual who meets the above criteria and seeks an opportunity to learn firsthand about a federal government corporate environment. In this exciting position located in Edmonton, you will be advising and responding to requestors from across Canada, providing expert advice to senior management and departmental staff, ensuring best practices from your indepth knowledge of legislation, and industry policies and standards, and liaising with other departments and central agencies as required. This position is open to individual who are interested in a term assignment, secondment or interchange*.
Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) was established in 1987 to promote the development and diversification of the economy of Western Canada and to advance the interests of the West in national economic policy, program and project development and implementation. Our headquarters are in Edmonton and we have regional offices in Vancouver, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and a Policy and Strategic Direction Office in Ottawa.

Your résumé.
Successful completion of secondary school education according to provincial/territorial standards or a combination of education, experience, and/or training.
Significant* experience managing activities related to Access to Information and Privacy Acts or Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Experience providing strategic support, analysis and advice to senior management (on ATIP or FOIP issues and/or program delivery).
Experience developing policies and guidelines for legislative compliance, including Privacy Impact Assessments and other activities related to ATIP or FOIP.
Experience researching and interpreting ATIP or FOIP case law and reviews.
Experience processing complex and sensitive requests for information under the Access to Information and Privacy Acts, as well as consulting and negotiating with third parties, other levels of government, and requestors to resolve ATIP files.
Experience developing and delivering training and awareness sessions (related to ATIP or FOIP).
*Significant is defined as having performed the full-time duties of the job for a period of three years or more.
Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position.
Completion of the International Association of Privacy Professionals or Information Act and Protection of Privacy Certificate Program or equivalent.
Experience in the use of ATIP or FOIP software or similar software applications.
Experience delivering training.
Experience supporting HR Programs such as recruitment, onboarding and/or awards and recognition.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of the Access to Information and Privacy or FOIP Acts regulations and policies.
Knowledge of principles and theories associated with information management to advise on appropriate use, protection and disclosure under ATIP or FOIP.
Knowledge of case law, legal precedents, jurisprudence and past decisions of the Information/Privacy Commissioners for invoking exemptions and exclusions, and recommending options.
