NOTE - casual employment means a short-term employment option to hire persons to the Public Service for a period not to exceed 90 working days in one department in any one calendar year.

Intent of the process

This process will serve to create a pool of qualified candidates which may be used for similar positions with various language requirements and tenures. Examples of positions and duties are provided below.

Position 1: Programmer
Position 2: Support Technician

EDUCATION POSITION 1 - Programmer & 2 - Support Technician:
- Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

1.Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.

- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in computer science, computer engineering, information sciences or other discipline related to the position.

ASSET EXPERIENCE DEFINITION:
- SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE refers to the breadth and depth of experience in the IM/IT field that would normally be acquired over a period of six (6) months or more.
- RECENT is defined as experience obtained within the last three (3) years.
- OFFICIAL CAPACITY is defined as experience as a member of an IT team providing site support, service center or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

KNOWLEDGE POSITION 1 - Programmer:
- Knowledge of Javascript

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The operational requirement to work non-standard/traditional work hours, and/or overtime, and/or On-Call, and/or physical ability to lift and install IT equipment, will be used for selection for some positions and may become a condition of employment when used.

Candidates must meet all the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.

Please note that achieving the pass mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process. Management may decide to use a score that is higher than the pass mark on any of the evaluations used throughout the selection process.
