The CGC is a significant part of Canada’s dynamic and diverse agricultural sector. We regulate grain handling in Canada, set grain standards and conduct research on grain. At the CGC, we strive to live our values of excellence, integrity, respect and accountability.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one full time term position.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used for similar indeterminate, specified period employment, acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in chemistry.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Recent* experience related to the procedures and operations of lab equipment in analytical chemistry or a related field.
- Recent* experience collecting, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
- Recent* experience with laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Experience working with, implementing and maintaining a quality management system (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 17025).
- Experience using computer programs for database management, spreadsheets, word-processing and preparation of presentations/training materials.

Recent* is defined as experience obtained within the last 3 years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Education:
- An advanced degree in science with specialization in chemistry or a related field.
- Successful completion of training in at least one of: quality management, ISO 9001/17025, quality system auditing.
- Certification as an ISO 17025 lead auditor.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
- Experience working in an ISO accredited laboratory.
- Experience delivering ISO related training.
- Experience in providing advice and interpretation of requirements related to quality management systems and accreditations to senior management.
- Experience in internal and external audits of quality management systems.

Knowledge:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of quality assurance and quality control in a laboratory (e.g. document control, internal auditing).
- Knowledge of the techniques and procedures used to assess laboratory quality management systems (e.g. auditing).
- Knowledge of quality management systems including: ISO 9001 or ISO 17025.
- Knowledge of health and safety principles, policies and regulations.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

- Ability and willingness to be exposed to and work with hazardous chemicals and laboratory equipment and to adherence to laboratory safety standards and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to wear protective clothing and/or equipment.
- Ability and willingness to maintain standing and/or sitting positions for extended periods.
- Ability and willingness to be exposed to grain and flour dust. Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the work to be performed.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
