ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Candidates must always have a degree.

The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through courses in other programs such as Social Sciences (anthropology, history, psychology, geography, criminology, and other disciplines associated with social science); Public Administration; Political Science; Mathematics; Computer science; Data Science/Data Analytics; Accounting; Demography/Population Studies; Environmental Sciences; Epidemiology; and Finance.

The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

E1 – Significant experience* conducting research projects and analysis using advanced quantitative methods or qualitative methods.

E2 – Significant experience* in writing research documents independently (e.g. research reports, analytical notes etc.) and presenting research findings to various audiences, such as management, stakeholders or partners.

E3 – Significant experience* in making recommendations to senior management (executives).

E4 – Significant experience* in working collaboratively with stakeholders, partners or academics in the conduct of research projects or the development of survey or qualitative data.

E5 – Experience using statistical software** to undertake analysis.

*Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired over a period of four (4) years.

**Examples of statistical software include: SAS, STATA, R, E-Views, SPSS, NVivo, MAXQDA, ATLAS.ti, Excel or other similar statistical software for qualitative or quantitative analysis.

Candidates who qualify in both assessment stages will be placed in a pool (a list of qualified candidates). Hiring managers may then invite candidates on this list to participate in informal interviews or reference checks to fill positions.

You must provide proof of your education during the assessment phase. Candidates with foreign education credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. Any applicable fees are the responsibility of the candidate.

Foreign certificates and/or diplomas must be assessed against Canadian education standards. The federal public service will accept any Foreign Educational Credentials as long as they are deemed comparable to Canadian standards, determined by a recognized credential assessment service.

The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) assists persons who wish to obtain an assessment of their educational, professional, and occupational credentials by referring them to the appropriate organizations.
