Intent of the process

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada and in the Public Service, with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, and Bilingual (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements (reliability, secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience

Degree equivalency

Valid Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyman’s Certificate in one of the following trades: Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing/Gas Fitting.

Experience in the operation and maintenance of a scientific research facility or other institution with mechanical, electrical, fire protection and energy management systems.

Experience in the maintenance of refrigeration systems and controls, HVAC equipment and standby generators.

Experience making recommendations on budgets, cost estimates and decisions to replace or repair components, and final payments upon completion of work.

Previous supervisory experience.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge of safety practices applicable to active laboratory ventilation systems, hot water heating and refrigeration systems.

Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) standards and Federal Treasury Board guidelines.

Knowledge of the proper maintenance procedures to overhaul and maintain HVAC systems and auxiliary equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to interpret data outputs, graphical displays and printouts.
Ability to perform running maintenance and minor repair tasks.

Valid Interprovincial Fourth (4th) Class Power Engineers Certificate.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Willingness to work overtime including weekends on rotation.
Willingness to perform scheduled standby duty.
Willingness to climb ladders to heights up to 12 feet.
