Education:
Bachelor of Law degree

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:
Eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Yukon within a specified period of time

Experience:
Experience in drafting legal documents required in the conduct of civil litigation.

Experience in conducting legal research and analysis, including using computerized databases.

Recent* experience in litigation in the capacity of a lawyer.
*Recent means experience acquired within the last 18 months.

Knowledge of recent and significant case law in at least one of the following three subject areas: aboriginal law, negligence law or administrative law.

Ability to draft legal opinions and memoranda of fact and law for a superior court.

Ability to conduct legal research and interpret legislation.

Written Communication: Presents and discusses legal concepts and issues in a clear, concise and effective manner in writing.

Oral Communication: Demonstrated ability to present ideas, proposals, concepts and other information clearly, succinctly and with credibility. Adjusts the language, style and tone of communication to suit the audience

Judgment: Identifies available alternatives, selects the best alternatives and acts appropriately; makes appropriate decisions which are logical and practical.

Thinking Skills: Identifies and analyses problems and situations drawing logical conclusions and viable solutions.

Effective Interpersonal Relationships: Demonstrated ability to interact with various individuals such as: staff, colleagues, clients, officials of government departments and others. Demonstrated ability to develop respect, mutual understanding, and productive working relationships; Demonstrated ability to work as a contributing member of a team and occasionally lead on particular issues of low to moderate risk; Shares information in an open manner to help others make informed decisions; Values and encourages the exchange of ideas.

Initiative: Willingly seeks out, assumes and discharges responsibility for matters.

Professionalism: Performs in a professional manner at all times; maintains effectiveness and composure in stressful situations; takes personal responsibility in meeting targets or deadlines.

Thoroughness: Pays attention to details, produces high quality work.
