The candidate will perform imputation from low-density genotypes to high density or whole genome sequence.
The candidate will perform GWAS using variants selected from whole genome sequence in dairy cows.
The candidate will map variants, including candidate genes, associated with susceptibility to paratuberculosis in dairy cattle.
It is a bilingual environment. The language of conversation at work is generally French but English is also used. The language exercised in the scientific tasks is in English.
The Sherbrooke Research and Development Centre was established in 1914 in Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec. The centre is the only Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research centre specialized in innovative research primarily for the Canadian dairy and swine industries.
The centre leads research in three key areas:

PhD in Animal Genomics with a specialty in Quantitative Genetics and be enrolled or eligible to enroll in the PostDoc program - Faculty of Science at the University of Sherbooke.
- Experience in statistical genetics, modeling, biostatistics, molecular genetics, population genetics and animal physiology.
- Experience in using Linux systems
- Experience in genotype imputation from low density to sequence data
- Experience in genome wide-association study (GWAS)

Information on language requirements
- Knowledge of Linux systems
- Knowledge of programming languages e.g. R, Python, and AWK
- Knowledge of genetic analysis tools e.g. ASReml, Wombat, GCTA, DMU, GS3, BAYZ, and GenStat.
- Knowledge in statistical genetics, modeling, biostatistics, molecular genetics, population genetics and animal physiology.
- Ability in writing scientific reports and manuscripts
- Ability to process large data sets using a system distributing systems
- Ability in handling next generation sequence data using tools such as Samtools, Bedtools, Bowtie2, Index, and FastQC
- Ability in the interpretation of GWAS results including annotation using tools such as Cytoscape and David
