The Junior Technical Assistant will provide services related to the maintenance, warehousing, expedition and return, preparation of technical audio-visual equipment as well as support services to the senior technical coordinators, the Control Center Coordinator and the manager of technical services.
The Junior Technical Assistant safeguards AV equipment within the warehouse, and ensures items are stored according to best practices and according to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines. Prepares AV equipment for events; updates and completes “pull lists” as required; and sees to the identification, preparation, maintenance and shipping of these requirements, which includes: receiving a list of items, selecting and gathering material, recording the information, labeling and making arrangements for shipping. Assembles, adjusts, repairs and operates various audio-visual components, including projectors, lighting systems, sound systems and video systems.
Most of the work is within a warehouse environment however the candidate must be prepared to work outdoors in harsh climactic environments for extended periods of time.
The position supports Canada Day in the Capital, Winterlude, the Sound and Light show and many other Capital Experience events.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff identical or similar positions with various security requirements and conditions of employment within the department of Canadian Heritage.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or an *acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience .
*Acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience:
Minimum of 4 years of secondary school AND
- Successful completion of one or more training(s), certification(s), course(s), diploma(s) or other mark of successful completion taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations, employers or manufacturers in a field related to Audio-visual production and/or Audio-visual equipment.
EXPERIENCE
*Experience in handling and in basic operation of audiovisual equipment (sound, lighting or video).
*minimum of 500 hours over 6 months
*Experience in working in a warehouse setting.
*a minimum of three consecutive months

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the mandate of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and safety, including Canada Labor Code Part-2 and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHIMIS).
*Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance of audiovisual (sound, lighting or video) equipment.
*Basic knowledge of the terminology used in the audiovisual field (lighting, video and audio)
*Basic knowledge of the operation and connections of audio-visual equipment.

EDUCATION
Post-secondary diploma or specialized training(s) in the fields of Arts, theater, lighting, audio recording, engineering, electronics or other relevant training to the position being staffed.
EXPERIENCE
Experience related to the technical side of event production, such as video, lighting or audio.
KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of audio-visual related software.
ABILITIES
Ability to prepare and organize position relevant documentation, technical and non-technical.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to correctly read and interpret all technical requirements related to the position.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to work occasionally overtime, on weekends and holidays as well as irregular hours.
Reliability Status security clearance
Willingness and ability to operate a forklift, a walkie stacker, a scissor lift and an industrial low lift
Willingness and ability to work at heights
Ability to lift up to 25KG
Hold a valid unrestricted, non-probationary, non-graduated driver’s license with good abstract
Work in a warehouse, as well as outdoors, which can be for long periods of time including in harsh climactic conditions
The following certifications are required before the appointment is made. The required training and the cost associated with the training will be provided by the employer. A candidate will be appointed only after the successful completion of these certifications. As a result, the successful candidate will be hired on *casual basis until the training is completed.
