As a Senior Surveyor, you will provide advice to clients on legislative, regulatory, and common law principles related to boundaries, and historical boundary documents and survey practices and methodologies. Identify common law principles and mechanisms for boundary dispute resolution. In addition, you will prepare land descriptions and research reports; this work includes verifying the quality of boundary surveys, ensuring Provincial and CLS survey standards are met and proposing solutions to address deficiencies in boundary surveys. You will prepare requests for proposals for survey related contracts, developing in-house estimates of costs, evaluation and approval activities. You may organize, plan and conduct routine field surveys including inspections. You will develop and deliver boundary presentations at professional conferences and to clients groups as well as provide recommendations on the amendment of standards, survey guidelines procedures and policies for the regulation of legal land surveys.

The immediate need is to staff one position located in Edmonton, Alberta.
A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada in Edmonton, Regina and Vancouver with various tenures (term or permanent), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance) and with various conditions of employment.

Your résumé.
A licence or authority to practice as a land surveyor in Alberta, British Columbia or Saskatchewan.
Approximately 2 years’ experience in providing boundary or cadastral survey services.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geomatics, geodetic sciences or remote sensing.
A Canada Lands Surveyor's commission AND licence to practice issued by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors.
Experience in creating mapping products.
Knowledge of the Canada Lands Survey System (including Acts and Regulations).
Knowledge of legal land descriptions.
Ability to interpret and create legal land descriptions.
Ability to research complex survey boundary issues.
