****Assessments will be conducted at locations of the employer's choice (DFO/CCG offices) and may require candidates to travel to the assessment location. Candidates will be required to pay for their own travel expenses when invited for assessment.
Performs all skilled carpentry tasks including rough and finish carpentry.
Conducts site inspections to determine maintenance, modification and/or repair requirements.
Plans and organizes the on-site activities of field construction workers, labourers and/or contractors involved in new construction, repair and maintenance activities.
Ensures that all life cycle maintenance activities for facilities under their control are adequately captured in AMS for the life cycle management of CCG assets.
The work frequently requires physical effort to:
Climb and walk on uneven/slippery terrain, climbing, crouching and standing in awkward and unstable positions. There is often a requirement to work from ladders, suspended work platforms and unstable platforms while holding and operating tools and equipment; maintaining awkward positions while operating tools/equipment; and working in cramped/confined areas for extended periods of time. Towers typically range in height from 2 meters to 42 meters
Lift and carry heavy tools and supplies for varying distances, often over difficult terrain, and load or unload the same from truck canopies, trailers, boats and helicopters.
There is a frequent requirement to conduct work outdoors under adverse or extreme weather conditions, over or near large bodies of water or on cliffs and mountain tops and peaks, on unstable surfaces (floating aids, small crafts) or at heights (ladders, towers) while wearing bulky protective clothing and carrying heavy tools and equipment.
There is often a requirement to travel on board ships or by water craft, all-terrain vehicles, helicopters, and snowmobiles, to transfer onto and off of various marine structures and crafts, from small vessels to shore, and to walk long distances over rough or swampy terrain.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions in the Canadian Coast Guard, Atlantic Region.
Candidates should be aware that the assessment process will be conducted under tight deadlines shortly after the closing date of the poster. You will therefore be expected to be available when scheduled for your assessment. Rescheduling will be on an exceptional basis only.

• Certificate of qualification as a Red Seal in the carpentry trade.
• Experience in refurbishment and construction of buildings and structures.
• Experience in building concrete forms, and placing and finishing concrete.

• Valid fall protection certificate or rope access certification.
• Valid Marine Radio Operator’s License
• WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
• Current, valid first aid certificate
• Experience with the use of helicopters for transportation, construction activities, and logistic support.
• Experience in assisting other construction trades.
• Experience in cabinet making.
• Experience in field/remote site operations.

• Required to climb towers and work at heights in excess of 2.4m.
