1. No written exam nor interview will be administered in this selection process. The selection committee will use the screening questionnaire (for both the essentials and assets) to make a selection decision. The nominee(s) will provide scientific and/or technical support within the Government of Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This process aims at creating a pool of candidates to staff various determinate (few weeks to several months), or indeterminate positions among the Maurice-Lamontagne Institute's research teams. Depending on the supervisors' needs, the nominee(s) will work in the field, aboard research or fishing vessels, or in a laboratory, including the Institute's seawater facilities. Tasks may include sampling with various fishing devices, designing, building, and maintaining experimental seawater systems, selecting, calibrating, and using specialized scientific equipment, controlling water quality and working with live organisms, or selecting or developping appropriate methodologies. The nominee(s) will collect, enter, and validate experimental data on the appropriate support.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established in order to staff similar positions at Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in biological sciences, wildlife management, a field of natural sciences relevant to the duties of the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience in providing technical support and collecting data as part of biological scientific projects in the field or laboratory.
Experience in providing advice in sampling methodology, seawater system design, experiment planning, or choice of equipment, as part of biological scientific projects in the field or laboratory.
Experience using a personal computer and common softwares such as MS Word and Excel (or equivalent).
Experience in taxonomic identification of marine organisms:
-Phytoplankton
-Algae
-Zooplankton, fish and invertebrate larvae
-Macro-invertebrates
-Fishes
Experience in planning and conducting programs for sampling or collecting live organisms in the field.
Experience with usual techniques for morphometric and other biological measurements, particularly for fishes and invertebrates in the field or laboratory.
Experience in collecting, validating, and managing data, including use of databases.
Experience in planning and conducting experiments with live fishes and invertebrates in the laboratory, and use of specialized techniques.
Experience in planning and conducting transportation, use and care of live research organisms, particularly fishes and invertebrates.
Experience in designing, building and maintaining laboratory saltwater systems, including control of abiotic water parameters (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen).
Experience in providing advice on selection of scientific equipment, and use and calibration of specialized scientific equipment.
Experience in scientific SCUBA diving.
Experience in using scientific software, for example: statistical analyses, image analysis, graphing, GIS, basic programming (R, SAS), etc.
Experience in ordering supplies and managing expenses in accordance with ministerial directives.
