Duties

1. Plans, coordinates, manages/leads and/or executes the delivery of civil aviation safety oversight of individuals, enterprises, and organizations, including the oversight of Ministerial delegates related to aeronautical product development, design certification and continuing airworthiness.

2. As a subject matter expert in aeronautical product design and approval / certification, conducts oversight of approved organizations including Airworthiness Engineering Organizations (AEO), Design Approval Organizations (DAO), Design Approval Representatives (DAR), Design Approval Holders (DAH), Approved Maintenance Organizations (AMO), manufacturers, operators, certificate holders, and Minister’s delegates and provides this subject matter expertise to other internal and external stakeholders.

3. Exercises Ministerial delegation of authority under the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) to execute oversight activities and ensure compliance with regulations.

4. Researches, identifies, assesses and documents risks to safety and determines and implements risk mitigation solutions and approaches.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering or other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE

EX1: Experience providing guidance on the interpretation and application of regulations or standards

• Certification of aeronautical products

KNOWLEDGE

K1: Knowledge of engineering theory, principles and/or practices related to aeronautical products.
K2: Knowledge of the design, construction, modification, operation and/or airworthiness of aeronatical products.
K3: Knowledge of Canadian and international civil aviation standards and regulations as they pertain to aircraft certification.

Conditions of employment
