Intent of the process

Although the immediate intent of this Job Opportunity Advertisement is to staff indeterminately, applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements listed in the Language Requirements section. In addition, this process may be used for various tenures (acting appointments, assignment, deployment, indeterminate, specified period, secondment), security requirements and conditions of employment within Health Canada. • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Notes:
• Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
• An indeterminate incumbent of a former ES position on June 30, 1967 who became an EC on June 22, 2009, who does not possess the minimum level of education as indicated for Part A above is deemed to meet this minimum educational standard based on his/her education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

• Significant and recent* experience preparing and providing complex**verbal and written advice to senior management***

*Significant and recent is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities in this field acquired over a period of approximately 3 years in the last 5 years.
**Complex includes items that could refer to: being national in scope; having many elements or dimensions; having significant public visibility; featuring significant involvement by partners or stakeholders; being financially challenging etc.
***Senior management is defined as Director level or management level equivalent

• Significant and recent* experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal or external stakeholders.

*Significant and recent is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities in this field acquired over a period of approximately 3 years in the last 5 years.

• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or policy files under tight timelines.
