Essential Education

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Note 1: Indeterminate period incumbents in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience.
Note 2: At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

Essential Experience

Recent experience (within the past 2 years) in:
E1 - Experience with in providing Information Technology Support (IT) in a networked Microsoft Windows 7 environment or Windows 10.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge

K1 - Knowledge of computer principles in a Microsoft Windows network environment using Microsoft Office Suite. Including installing, troubleshooting and configuring microcomputers, peripherals, VPN (Virtual Private Network) software and trends and developments in the IT field.

K2- Knowledge of service desk support principles and software including: escalation procedures, basic user accounts management, systems security technologies, policies, and procedures, and troubleshooting techniques and general knowledge of Information Management and or Information Technology processes and best practices.

Abilities and Skills

A1 - Ability to prioritize, analyse, diagnose and resolve computer hardware, software and end user training issues with minimal supervision.
A2 - Ability to communicate effectively orally in English.
A3 - Ability to communicate effectively in writing in English.

Personal Suitability

PS1 - Effective interpersonal skills.
PS2 - Dependability.
PS3 - Client focus.
PS4 - Initiative

Asset Qualifications

AQ1 - A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or a three (3) year diploma from a recognized college with specialization in computer science, information technology, information management, computer engineering or another specialty relevant to the positions to be staffed.
AQ2 - Technical certification in an IM/IT field (e.g. MSCE, CNE, MCP, Oracle, Comptia A+ etc.).
AQ3 - IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification.
AQ4 - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
AQ5 - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
AQ6 - Experience supporting Windows Server and/or Linux.
AQ 7 - Experience supporting VMware and/or Citrix.

Degree equivalency

Experience supporting the “Canadian Defence Red Switch Network (CDRSN) or NATO equivalent.

Operational Requirements
