This position is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The salary range for these positions is from $92,483 to $107,258, plus northern allowance (from $19,000 to $31,000 per year) and vacation travel assistance (approximately $2,000-$3,000 per person (i.e. per employee and each of the eligible dependants), twice per year).

The Regional Socio-Economic Analyst will be responsible for reviewing and commenting upon the socio-economic components of all major project draft and final environmental impact statements. The successful candidate will contribute to and participate in both technical and final hearings by providing advice and input into all of the Department’s interventions. In addition, the Regional Socio-Economic Analyst will represent the Department at all three regional Socio-Economic Monitoring Committees to ensure that any available funding is coordinated to minimize negative socio-impacts and maximize the positive socio-economic impacts of the project.

The intent of this selection process is to staff one permanent position at the Nunavut Regional Office in Iqaluit.
A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) or other Federal Departments and Agencies located in Nunavut.
The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignment, secondment or deployment under exceptional circumstances in order to protect employee's indeterminate status.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
*The term "degree" refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience* working on resource development and/or regulatory/environmental assessment issues or projects.
• Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with partners and stakeholders that may include: Other Federal Departments or Agencies, Industry or the Private Sector, or Territorial and Provincial Governments, Indigenous Organizations.
*Experience is defined as two (2) years of direct work-related experience within the last ten years.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
(Not essential, but preference will be given to candidates who possess asset qualifications)
EDUCATION:
A master-level degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in economics, statistics, socio-economic assessment or monitoring.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working within a multi-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
• Experience working within a Northern environment.
• Experience working within the Nunavut regulatory environment.

• Knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement and its role in resource development specifically, its role in the environmental assessment process as it relates to socio-economic impacts.
• General knowledge of federal regulatory and legislated obligations related to Northern resource development and more specifically CIRNAC’s role and mandate.
• General knowledge of Nunavut’s Socio-Economic Monitoring Committees and related public/community government and industry priorities.
• General knowledge of socio-economic assessment or monitoring projects that include industry, government, non-governmental organizations, communities or community groups.
