Duties

The successful candidate will lead research on the topics of insect population detection, quantification and mitigation. The incumbent will apply knowledge of entomology, ecology, acarology, mycology, and statistical analysis to the study of stored grain ecosystems. They will work with industry, government and other stakeholders to maintain relevant direction of the stored product protection program. The incumbent will also work with stakeholders from academia, government, and industry, applying their expertise to help resolve challenges associated with regulatory standards for insects. The incumbent is expected to manage projects in a multidisciplinary setting requiring collaboration with other scientific teams. They will be expected to seek internal and external funding and collaborators to support the research program, and to effectively manage resources to achieve the desired outcomes. The incumbent will directly supervise staff, and may mentor and train post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. The incumbent will be expected to publish research results in scientific journals.

The position is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the University of Manitoba located in the Department of Biosystems Engineering. It is part of an internationally-recognized, competitively-funded research program in stored product entomology, engineering and mycology. The position is part of a multidisciplinary team with access to research labs, growth cabinets, and commercial scale storage bins, and is supported by technical staff to conduct lab and field experiments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of entomology, ecology or another acceptable discipline related to the duties of the position.

Applications will be accepted from candidates enrolled in, but who have not yet completed, a Ph.D. program. Completion of the Ph.D. thesis must occur before the date of appointment.

Recognition of foreign credentials: if you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. You are encouraged to begin this process as soon as possible, see link below.

Degree equivalency

Experience in the design and conduct of scientific research specifically as it relates to insect populations and biology.

Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team.

Documented scientific productivity/recognition in the form of authorship/editorship of research results in recognized scientific journals, and published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from scientific research.
