Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers, offering over 70 different types of civilian career opportunities. Intent of the process

This process aims to staff one indeterminate (permanent) position in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu. However, a pool of qualified candidates will be established from this process to staff term (temporary) and indeterminate positions in Valcartier, St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and Bagotville. Furthermore, this pool may be used to staff similar positions in the Ministry of National Defense.

Education
The candidate must be a graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology Program.

Degree equivalency

Occupational certification:
The candidate outside Quebec must be certified through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and possess current registration/licensing with the provincial governing body, if applicable.

Quebec candidates need only to be licensed as a technologist with the Quebec provincial body. CSMLS certification not required to practice in the province of Quebec.

Experience
Recent* and significant ** work experience as a medical laboratory technologist.
* Recent: obtained over the last 5 years
** Significant: cumulative experience of more than 2 years

Experience in performing quality control.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge
Knowledge of chemistry, haematology, serology and microbiology analytical methods and techniques; knowledge of coagulation and
urinalysis; knowledge of phlebotomy.

Knowledge of lab quality assurance practices and policies.

Knowledge of lab safety practices and procedures.

Abilities
Ability to prepare, analyze, record and report on all laboratory specimens.

Ability to communicate effectively orally.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Ability to organise, prioritize work and work under pressure.

Experience with computerized lab information systems.

Experience with computerized quality control programs.

Experience as a medical laboratory technologist with experience in:
- Phlebotomy; or
- Haematology / coagulation; or
- Biochemistry.
