EDUCATION:

Graduation with a Master’s or PhD degree from a recognized post-secondary institution * in economics, sociology, statistics, commerce or business administration, public administration, international relations or affairs, science or science policy, or in a field directly relevant to the position.

* Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs. It is the candidate's responsibility to demonstrate that the degree/program held has been approved by a "recognized" Canadian post-secondary institution. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of your application.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

1. Recent ** and significant *** experience in providing strategic advice, both in writing and orally, to senior management officials (Assistant Deputy Minister level or equivalent or higher) on high priority and high complex issues pertaining to science and research.

2. Significant *** experience in working in partnership with all of the following:
a) Federal departments and/or separate agencies; and
b) Academic institutions; and
c) Scientific institutions.

3. Significant *** experience in managing communications.

4. Experience in managing human **** and financial ***** resources.

** Recent: within the last two (2) years.

*** Significant: Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities related to this task at a senior level (director level and equivalent or higher).

**** Human resources management: Applicants must clearly demonstrate they have supervised staff and assigned work for at least two (2) consecutive years. Applicants must indicate the number of staff they supervised.

***** Financial resources management: Applicants must show evidence of developing and managing a budget for at least two (2) consecutive years. Applicants must indicate the size of the budget they managed.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:

1. Experience in the development or review of Memorandum to Cabinet and Treasury Board Submissions.

2. Experience in representing an organization at a senior level (director level and equivalent or higher) in international forums.

3. Experience managing the office of a senior management official (Assistant Deputy Minister level and equivalent or higher).
