Duties

The successful candidate will primarily curate physical exhibitions but will also support and develop curated online content.

Work environment

The mandate of Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is to acquire, preserve and provide access to published and archival heritage material for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Exhibitions and Online Content Division facilitates access and provides context to LAC collections through a range of activities and programs. The division runs an active exhibition and loan program that partners with libraries and museums across the country. We also bring LAC’s collection to users through diverse online platforms such as a blog, podcasts, Flickr and Wikipedia.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within Library and Archives Canada using various languages requirements and/or various tenures according to the positions being staffed.

Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in museology, history, history of art, anthropology, social sciences, humanities or other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES

Experience in curating exhibitions at museums, galleries or similar cultural institutions including but not limited to conceptualization, research, object selection, interpretive planning and writing text;
Experience in using a variety of interpretive techniques and media (text, design, audio-visual material, interactives) to communicate to a diverse audiences;
Experience in working with partner institutions or organizations on initiatives to meet shared goals;
Experience in performing original historical research from primary and secondary sources to develop exhibitions or related initiatives.
