The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, commonly known as Elections Canada, is an independent, non-partisan agency that reports directly to Parliament. Its primary mandate is to be prepared to conduct a federal general election, by-election or referendum. The agency’s mandate also includes other activities, such as administering the political financing provisions of the Canada Elections Act, conducting voter education and information programs, and carrying out studies on alternative voting methods.
Elections Canada normally has some 500 employees working in the National Capital Region. This number increases to 1,200 in the periods before and after a general election.
In anticipation of the next general election, the Electoral Integrity Office is seeking analysts to participate in electoral readiness.
