In cooperation with the research scientists at the Northern Forestry Centre, this position is to advance research evaluating historical burns and their impacts on vegetation recovery. Specifically, this work will focus on characterizing vegetation characteristics and the effect of fire behavior on post-fire structure and species composition in the northern boreal forest. Research will also consider climate change projections and the potential implications for future wildfire.
The Northern Forestry Centre is one of five research centres operated by the Canadian Forest Service. The centre is located in a beautiful park-like setting nestled on the edge of the community of Lansdowne in South Edmonton. Employees enjoy an in-house cafeteria as well as close proximity to the Whitemud Freeway, the University of Alberta, Southgate Mall and the South Campus/Fort Edmonton Park LRT station. For 46 years, the Northern Forestry Centre has contributed greatly to the Canadian Forest Service’s forest science research in the areas of wildland fire, climate change, boreal system ecology and land reclamation.
