EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Possession of a valid Provincial Certificate of Trade Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic/ Millwright or related trade such as metal fabricator, sheet metal worker, welder, machinist and/or heavy duty equipment technician.
EXPERIENCE
Experience installing, operating and maintaining commercial or institutional equipment/machinery such as:
• Compressors;
• Walk-in coolers and freezers; and/or
• Metal working equipment, machinery, and tools.
Experience interpreting construction plans, equipment schematics, specifications and maintenance manuals.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of any continuing education courses relevant to facility maintenance or workplace safety.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Completion of a Certificate or Diploma program, or apprenticeship accreditation program leading to qualification as a:
• Building Services Technician, or
• Systems Maintenance Technician, or
• Facilities Maintenance Technician, or
• Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, or
• Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technician.
Inter-provincial standard (Red Seal) Endorsement as metal fabricator, sheet metal worker, welder, machinist and/or heavy duty equipment technician.
Qualified under the Boiler and Pressure Vessel regulations of the Province of employment to operate all the employer’s hot water and/or low pressure steam boilers.
Other certifications such as journeyman accreditation or diploma relevant to facility maintenance
EXPERIENCE
Experience with Oxy/Acetylene, SMAG and AC/DC welding and cutting equipment.
Experience troubleshooting system failures and malfunctions to initiate or propose solutions.
Experience installing, operating and maintaining commercial or institutional equipment/machinery such as:
• Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems;
• Boilers;
• Gate operators and locking mechanisms
Experience working with Computers Maintenance Management Systems, Building Automation or Management Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
Experience performing metal work and metal fabrication, such as basic welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, grinding and bending.
Experience working in a correctional, industrial or institutional environment.
