Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*

Degree equivalency

Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.
Experience using a personal computer, and word processing and spreadsheet software.
Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience manipulating data in an electronic database.
Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement, judicial or quasi-judicial environment.
Experience providing financial support services. (Services may include, but are not limited to, verifying and correcting financial claims, controlling and monitoring petty cash, preparing financial status reports, etc.).
Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), Police Information Retrieval Systems (PIRS), Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS), Automated Criminal Intelligence Information System (ACIIS), National Criminal Data Bank (NCDB).
Experience in providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving or destroying data.
Experience transcribing from audio cassettes or digital media.
Ability to transmit information.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations).

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) security clearance.
This requires a Security/Reliability Interview, and a field investigation in matters of Criminal Activities, credit/finances, education, employment, reference, etc. Those selected must meet and maintain the above condition of employment throughout their employment.

Assessments comprise of exams, interviews and references.

The Objective Exercise for Personnel in Administrative Functions (OEPAF) is an online exam that will be administered. It is a competency evaluation tool used in staffing processes for administrative support positions. This skills test contains multiple choice questions. The scenarios are related to setting priorities, data entry, administrative document verification, and communication skills. This test will be used to evaluate the following merit criteria:
• Ability to transmit information
• Detail-oriented
• Being organised
• Action-oriented
The retest period for the OEPAF is 180 days. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.
