Work environment

CIPO is a self-sustaining Special Operating Agency of Innovation, Sciences and Economic Development Canada which generates revenue and manages a revolving fund, is responsible for the administration, processing and granting the greater part of intellectual property rights in Canada. The Patent Branch is responsible for the examination and registration of patents, and is obligated to maintain accurate information throughout the lifecycle of the prosecution of patent applications and registrations.

Intent of the process

The pool of candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Indeterminate, determinate, assignment, secondment and deployment), including casual employment.

Cognitive Ability - Level 1

Applicants must complete the Unsupervised Internet Test of Cognitive Ability - Level 1 as part of the screening for this selection process. This test assesses general problem solving and reasoning ability. You will have 60 minutes to complete the test. You must complete the test before you submit your application for this position.

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

If you are screened-in, the following Public Service Commission test "General Competency Test Level 1 (GCT1) 207" will be administered. If you have already passed this written exam, with a pass mark of 30/50, PLEASE HAVE YOUR RESULTS READY TO BE SENT TO US. - A supplementary written test will be administered.
- Interview will be conducted.
- Reference checks will be conducted.
- Proof of Education and Canadian citizenship must be submitted at the interview.

All information obtained throughout the selection process, from the time of application to close of process, could be used to evaluate the candidates.

Depending on the number of candidates, CIPO’s needs and CIPO Human Resource plans, volume management strategies such as, but not limited to, top-down selection process, cut-off scores, random selection and/or assessment may be used for the purpose of managing applications/candidates.
