This is an anticipatory process. The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff casual, term and indeterminate opportunities within the Canadian Coast Guard.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a Cook certificate issued by a recognized institute or a TC Ship’s Cook Certificate
Possession of Valid Marine Emergency Duties certificates (STCW Basic Safety [A1 & B2]

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid MED B1* - Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats
*Note that this is required for periods of employment in excess of 6 months. Applicants may be screened into the pool without Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats [B1] but must acquire it for any staffing longer than 6 months.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience working as a Cook onboard a Canadian Coast Guard vessel.
• Experience working as a Cook onboard a ship or in a commercial establishment.
• Experience working as a Steward on a vessel or experience in Hospitality/Hotel Services; or providing professional housekeeping; or janitorial services; or services with the food industry
• Experience working as a Deckhand
For SC-STD-05 Chief Cook Only:
• Experience as a Chief Cook/Lead Cook on a Coast Guard Vessel or Commercial Vessel or in a Commercial establishment.
• Experience supervising staff
ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
Membership in one of the designated Employment Equity Groups
Reliability Status security clearance
• Willingness to be deployed in the Atlantic Region
• Must be willing and able to travel by air, land or by sea
• Must be willing to go to sea for prolonged periods of time (including Arctic Waters) and in adverse weather conditions
• Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel
• Maintain a Valid Certificate of Competency
• Willingness to wear and maintain uniform and personal protective equipment to Coast Guard Standards
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required
• For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
• Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions)
• Adherence to Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
• Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards

Rates of pay:
SC-STD-03: $26.75 per hour
SC-STD-04: $27.61 per hour
SC-STD-05: $28.51 per hour
