The Resource Management Biologist (BI-02) works with a multi-disciplinary team of Resource Managers and Biologists to provide biological advice in support of the conservation and sustainable management of fish stocks.
The immediate vacancy being filled with this staffing process requires an individual to assist with the management of Pacific salmon fisheries by preparing memos, technical reports and publications to share analytical methods developed. This individual will participate in fishery planning meetings by providing scientific advice to managers, Indigenous groups and public stakeholders and will be responsible for building and running statistical models using a variety of statistical programming software.
In addition to filling this immediate vacancy, this staffing process will also result in a pool of qualified candidates which will be used to fill future vacancies and/or staffing needs. Future vacancies may require similar skills to the current position or may be less focussed on statistical programming and require supervision of technical staff, analysis of fisheries catch and effort data or project planning/management.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada encourages motivated and qualified candidates with an interest in a unique opportunity to contribute to the conservation of Canada’s Pacific salmon stocks to apply to this position.
This pool will be used to fill an immediate vacancy in Fraser and Interior Area Resource Management reporting to the Annacis Island office, thereafter the pool may be used to fill other similar positions for various tenures across the Pacific Region.
