Education:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience in the conservation and/or monitoring of the environment, natural resources or species.

Experience in analyzing scientific information for the development of reports, maps or other specialized presentations of data.

Abilities:

Ability to communicate in writing.

Operational Requirements:

• Possession of a valid drivers’ license.
• Willingness to travel and participate in work meetings, occasionally outside of regular hours of work.

Knowledge of the Oceans Act Part II and related oceans planning and conservation measures.

Knowledge of the Fisheries Protection Program and the associated policies and fisheries protection provisions of the Fisheries Act.

Knowledge of the Species at Risk Act and at-risk aquatic species in the Newfoundland and Labrador Region.

Abilities:

Ability to communicate orally.

Asset Qualifications

Experience:

Experience in collaborating with stakeholders on natural resource management issues.

Experience participating in public consultations, including developing consultation materials and/or analyzing results.

Experience in assessing or monitoring impacts of human activities on fish or fish habitat.

Experience in marine spatial planning related to coastal or ocean management.

Experience in the listing or recovery of species at risk.

Experience working with GIS systems and software.

Experience using current computer programming or scripting language.

Experience performing data quality assurance/control on spatial or GIS related data.
