The International Platform Branch within Global Affairs Canada governs and delivers the visual program in support of the delivery of the Government of Canada’s programs in 179 missions located in 106 countries. Real property is handled by two bureaus, the Stewardship and Planning Bureau and the Project Delivery and Professional and Technical Services Bureau. Forming part of the Professional and Technical Services Bureau, the visual art program governs policy, acquisitions and management of the departments art collection for use in the real property portfolio, which is comprised over 1 million square metres of office and residential space, representing over 2,400 property holdings, including many properties of high value and historic significance. The visual art collection program works in collaboration with the Architectural and Interior Design divisions. The Program Officer will report to the Program Manager and Curator of visual art collection.
The immediate need is to staff (2) two positions on an indeterminate basis. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles (English essential, BBB/BBB) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, specified period, assignment, secondment) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary school program with specialization in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Visual Arts, Museology, Library and Archival Sciences or other relevant program from a recognized college or university; or acceptable combination* of education, training and experience.
*An acceptable combination of education, training and experience is defined as:
Successful completion of one year of a post-secondary school program with specialization in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Visual Arts, Museology, Library and Archival Sciences or other relevant program from a recognized college or university; and four years of experience working with artists and galleries or art associations or dealers.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years experience in five (5) of the following areas in a program or organization involved in visual arts or cultural objects :
• Inventorying
• Researching
• Cataloguing
• Documenting
• Preservation
• Displaying
• Handling
• Transporting
of art works
Experience in the use of an automated data management or data storage system in a museum, art gallery, archives or library environment.
Experience liaising with other organizations or stakeholders.
Graduation with a degree from an recognized university in art history, history, museum studies, library science, archival science or related fields.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in museum or gallery collections management;
Experience in the development or implementation of operational procedures, guidelines or communication tools for the administration of a program (internal/external);
Experience in registration of visual arts inventories;
Experience in policy writing in the visual arts;
Experience working with Photoshop;
Experience working with Adobe Acrobat;
Experience in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel);
Experience working with MIMSY XG.
Various language requirements

Able and willing to lift and handle pieces of art of varying sizes and weight up to 15 kg.
