Duties

We’re looking for a Social Media Trailblazer and Team Captain to lead social media operations at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). Reporting to the Manager of Social Media, our Trailblazer and Team Captain is fearless, has a sense of humour and is excited to blaze a trail through social media for others to follow. She or he will lead a team of social media pros, provide strategic advice on all things social media to colleagues across the department, senior leaders, the Minister’s Office and develop and implement original and pioneering social media approaches to support DFO priorities and engage with target audiences.

DFO has the lead federal role in managing Canada’s fisheries and safeguarding its waters. The Canadian Coast Guard, a Special Operating Agency within DFO, is responsible for services and programs that contribute to the safety, security and accessibility of Canada’s waterways.

You graduated with a degree from a recognized university in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or a field relevant to the position OR you have an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

EX1: You’ve worked in social media for at least two of the last four years and are still at it. You craft tweets and Facebook posts and pick winning graphics and visuals to support content for a variety of digital platforms. You’ve engaged regularly with followers, responded to public questions and provided social media support for livestreams and live tweeting at events.

EX2: You’ve consistently provided strategic advice and recommendations on social media to someone at a more senior level than you for at least two years over the last four years.

EX3: You have experience overseeing the work of employees and you know how to get team members organized and mobilized to deliver social media advice and content.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

AEX1:You have experience in collaborating with partners, stakeholders, colleagues and other organizations to highlight departmental priorities, initiatives and activities.
