When answering the screening questions, remember that the assessment board cannot make assumptions about your Education and Experience. This is similar to what would be expected of you when asked to provide a concrete example of a particular situation in the context of an interview.

Duties

CO-1 to CO-02 Apprenticeship Program

The goal of the Apprenticeship Program is to facilitate the recruitment and development of quality candidates for the Anti-dumping and Countervailing Investigations Program. Apprenticeship Program participants will be offered a variety of assignments. Depending on the placement of the candidate and work availability, an assignment could include investigative work, policy development, project work and participation in simulations. In addition to working in these assignments, the participants will receive specialized theoretical and practical training in the Special Import Measures Act, administrative law concepts and principles, and other trade–related issues, as considered appropriate for each position. Over the duration of the Apprenticeship Program, this mix of practical work experience and theoretical training gives the participants a unique opportunity to develop and meet the expectations and competency levels required to be appointed to the Senior Program Officer position (CO-2). Successful candidates will be promoted to a CO-02.

Duties:

- Assist Canadian industries in the preparation of complaints alleging injurious dumping or subsidizing of imported goods, analyze these complaints, and make recommendations regarding the initiation of an investigation.

- Request and analyze detailed information from exporters in respect of their marketing practices and costs of production.

- Request and analyze detailed information from foreign governments in respect of subsidies.

- Conduct financial, accounting and commercial verifications at the premises of importers, foreign exporters or at offices of foreign governments.

- Prepare reports on results of investigations and recommend whether to impose
anti-dumping or countervailing duties.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this selection process and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various linguistic profiles as well as various security clearances within the Canada Border Services Agency.

For this selection process, an acceptable specialization is defined as at least three (3) single semester courses in accounting, including one in cost accounting, taken at a recognized post-secondary institution.

Please note that achieving the pass mark on any of the assessments used does not mean you will move forward in the selection process. Management may decide to use a score that is higher than the pass mark on any of the evaluations used throughout the selection process. Management may also decide to use top-down selection at any stage of the process.
