Intent of the process

Anticipatory: The intent of this process is to staff one (1) term or indeterminate position in Delta or Kelowna (BC). A pool may be created to staff other similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, acting extensions, assignment, secondment), language requirements (English Essential, French essential or Bilingual) and profiles (BBB/BBB and CBC/CBC) and/or security requirements (reliability or secret) within Environment and Climate Change Canada in the Pacific Region.

Education:

ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

EX1. Significant* experience in leading, planning, or managing conservation, management or science projects related to ungulates or ungulate predator-prey systems.
EX2. Significant* experience collecting, analyzing, modelling and interpreting ecological data.
EX3. Experience communicating scientific data or concepts to non-scientific audiences.
* Significant experience refers to the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of approximately three (3) years.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

AED1. Advanced degree (Masters, Doctoral, PhD) from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in biology or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

AEX1. Experience working on caribou conservation, science or management projects.
AEX2. Experience working with aboriginal communities on wildlife conservation issues.
AEX3. Experience working with the natural resource sector on conservation or science projects.
AEX4. Experience in communicating technical information for the provision of advice to decision makers on ecosystem or species conservation issues.
AEX5. Experience in leading or participating on multi-jurisdictional and multi-agency teams or partnerships on wildlife conservation initiatives.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Pre-employment and ongoing medical clearance.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Willing and able to travel; this could include travel to remote locations.
Willing and able to travel in boats or small aircraft.
Willing and able to perform fieldwork.
Willing and able to work in adverse environmental conditions.
Willing and able to work irregular hours and on weekends on occasion.
