Work environment

The Bureau offers challenging careers. We seek individuals who can work in multi-disciplinary teams and are comfortable conducting investigations pursuant to the Competition Act. The Bureau’s Competition Law Officers will pool their expertise in performing research and analysis under the Competition Act, preparing requests for information, conducting interviews with market participants, assessing the competitive impact of proposed mergers or business conduct, writing reports and making recommendations to senior management. Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff up to two (2) indeterminate positions in Gatineau, Quebec. A pool of partially qualified candidates or entirely qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various language requirements (Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB, English Essential or English or French Essential), various security requirements (Reliability or Secret) and various tenures (indeterminate or term) within the Competition Bureau.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
A degree in law from a recognized university and eligibility for membership in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or in the Order of Notaries in the Province Quebec.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:
Within the last five (5) years, a minimum of:
E1: Significant experience* working as a lawyer in a private law firm or in the public sector in competition law, corporate law, regulatory law or commercial litigation;
E2: Experience communicating with or providing legal advice to external stakeholders.

* Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of two (2) years.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
A2: Ability to conduct research and investigations.
A3: Ability to manage projects or cases.
A4: Effective written communication.

AEDU: Successful completion of university-level courses in economics, commerce or business administration OR competition law.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience in litigating matters before courts and/or tribunals.
AE2: Experience assessing issues under the Competition Act.

Significant overtime, travel and flexible hours may be required.
