St. Lawrence Action Plan Coordination Office (SLAP CO) team at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is looking for two passionate and motivated scientific analysts, one for an indeterminate position and the other for a 12 month term position.
In collaboration with its counterparts in the Quebec government, SLAP CO coordinates all the activities of the 2011-2026 Canada-Quebec Agreement on the St. Lawrence (http://planstlaurent.qc.ca/). These activities are carried out through a joint action program related to the biodiversity, sustainable use and improvement of water quality in the St. Lawrence. The implementation of this Agreement therefore requires the coordination of several programs, including the Monitoring the State of the St. Lawrence Program and the Numerical Environmental Prediction Program; the Areas of Prime Concern (ZIP) Program, which fosters co-operation among regional stakeholders; and the Community Interaction funding program (CIP), which supports projects spearheaded by riverside communities. The SLAP CO analysts are also expected to contribute to the development of new activities that are likely to support the development of SLAP programming.
The immediate need is to staff one indeterminate (permanent) position and one 12-month specified period employment (term). A pool of partially qualified candidates will be established and will be used to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of Environment and Climate Change Canada. These positions may be staffed on an indeterminate or temporary basis.

Education
(ED1) Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
(EX1) Experience in the management of environmental projects related to ecology or environmental management of ecosystems.
(EX2) Experience analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing scientific information.
(EX3) Experience preparing various documents related to environmental subjects for different levels of government and the public.
Education
(AEd1) Graduation with a Master’s degree or higher level degree from a recognized postsecondary institution in fields relevant to the position.
Experience
(AEX1) Experience in database administration and management.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
Information on language requirements
Knowledge
(K1) Knowledge of the key environmental issues that can affect aquatic ecosystems, particularly the St. Lawrence river.
(K2) Knowledge of the key stakeholders involved in the St. Lawrence Action Plan and of the role of governmental and non-governmental partners.
(K3) Knowledge of water management policies, legislation and government jurisdictions in Quebec.

(A1) Ability to plan, coordinate and ensure realization and follow-up on projects.
(A2) Ability to analyze scientific and technical information and to provide advice and recommendations to managers.
