WHAT TO EXPECT
Health Canada's Regulatory Operations and Regions Branch - Controlled Substances and Environmental Health Directorate - Environmental Health Programs is seeking motivated individuals with a background in environmental health-related sciences. The ideal candidate enjoys working within a team environment and is an excellent communicator. You will work as part of a national team in the Edmonton office to deliver the Radon program as part of the Outreach and Engagement Unit in the Environmental Health Program. You will coordinate with other regional teams and colleagues across the country whose offices are located in downtown Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Longueuil and Halifax.
The Environmental Officer (Radon) is a member of the Outreach and Engagement Unit in the Environmental Health Program. This position is responsible for Radon program delivery in Alberta and North of 60. The main objective of the position is to educate and encourage members of the public to test their dwellings for radon; and to mitigate is levels are above Health Canada guideline. This objective is accomplished mainly through public outreach including targeted public presentations and tradeshows; developing stakeholder relationships and managing contracts with non- governmental organisations, industry, and provincial/territorial governments; and liaising with other Health Canada Directorates to maximize outreach to the Canadian public.
This process is an anticipatory process. A pool of partially assessed candidates may be established with the exception of a Second Language Evaluation (SLE). Pools may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various linguistic profiles,(Bilingual imperative BBB/BBB and bilingual imperative CBC/CBC) various security requirements, conditions of employment as well as various tenures permanent and temporary (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) within Health Canada across Canada. As a result of the potential and possible use of the selection process and subsequent pool by hiring managers, we encourage all employees seeking this type of position and/or group and level to apply.
As positions become available, the manager will select candidates from the partially assessed pool. Applicants should be aware that the essential language qualification for this process is required solely upon appointment therefore second language evaluations will be conducted for those being considered for appointment, if they do not have valid SLE results.

Experience in managing government contracts.

An assignment/secondment or an acting appointment is a temporary resourcing option. The approval of your substantive supervisor will be required before an offer can be made.
