Important messages

We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request special accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.

Information on accommodation for persons with disabilities

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

This is an inventory of potential candidates to fill upcoming employment opportunities at the Public Health Agency of Canada at various locations based on anticipated needs. Management can decide to pull applications at any point so please ensure you submit your application as soon as possible.

The first pull of candidate applications could happen as early as May 18, 2018.

How can you apply?

We want to attract top talent, therefore we are focusing on your competencies. We are also taking a simplified approach for you to apply to this process. To apply for this process, you don’t need to provide a cover letter (just a résumé).

You will be required to complete an online experience screening questionnaire when you apply. The information you provide in the questionnaire must be true. When answering the screening questions you must provide concrete and detailed examples to clearly demonstrate how you meet each qualification.

We can’t make any assumptions about your experience. Simply saying you have the required qualifications or listing your current duties is not enough. Instead, provide concrete and detailed examples that clearly explain where, when, and how you gained the experience. We’ll only use your résumé as a secondary source of information. If you don’t clearly demonstrate you have the required experience, we won’t ask for additional information and you may be screened out. The breadth and depth of experience may be considered during screening, assessment and/or selection of candidates.

The inventory will be updated every 90 days. You will receive a notice in your applicant account 10 days before the end of your active period to determine whether or not you wish to keep being considered for an additional 90 days

Duties

The incumbent will work in one of the sections of Centre for Foodborne, Environmental and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (or potentially other divisions within PHAC) performing the following activities, including but not limited to: leading national coordination of surveillance systems; reporting and serving as the focal point on Nationally Notifiable Diseases and case definitions; providing expert advice and briefings pertaining to health issues, risks and benefits; leading or supporting outbreak management and the management of human and financial resources.

Work environment

The Centre for Foodborne, Environmental and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases assesses the risk and reduces the impact of infectious diseases in Canada and internationally that can be spread to humans through contaminated food or water, or through contact with infected animals or the environment.

In addition to the goal of improving public health, we also assess the financial, social and economic cost of these infectious diseases to Canadians. Our work helps governments at the federal, provincial/territorial and local levels to develop policies and programs by providing evidencebased recommendations.

On a global level, we work with international partners such as the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to help reduce the threat of emerging infectious diseases.

Intent of the process

The process will initially be used to staff the following positions:

- One indeterminate CBC/CBC Manager/Unit Head, Epidemiologist and Bio-Statistician (Manager, Zoonoses Epidemiology) position in Ottawa, Ontario within the Policy Integration and Zoonoses Division (PIZD).
- One indeterminate English Essential Manager/Unit Head, Epidemiologist and Bio-Statistician (Manager, Surveillance) position in Guelph, Ontario within the Food-Borne Disease and Anti-microbial Resistance Surveillance Division (FDASD).
- One 12 month English Essential Manager/Unit Head, Epidemiologist and Bio-Statistician (Manager, Detection) position in Guelph, Ontario within the Outbreak Management Division

Our future needs:

The intent of this advertisement is to create and maintain an inventory to fill EC-07 positions within the Public Health Agency of Canada. This inventory may be used to staff positions at this group and level with various linguistic profiles, conditions of employment, geographic locations, security requirements and various tenures (indeterminate, specified term, acting, deployment, assignment, secondment) within the Public Health Agency of Canada. Therefore, all employees seeking this type of position and/or group and level are encouraged to apply including those already at the EC-07 level.

Depending on the needs, candidates may be randomly selected from the inventory for assessment purposes.

All federal organizations listed in Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) may use this selection process to appoint a candidate to its organization in a similar position.

Work your way through the list of requirements, completing each section and saving as you go. Before submitting your application, please ensure that there are green check marks on every single category before submitting your application.
If there are any red Xs on the categories, please click into that category and ensure that everything has been filled out. Screening questions have been built into the application process and occasionally an applicant may miss a field on the Screening Questions page.
