Duties

OSFI’s Supervision Sector is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team in the role of Director. The position is responsible for leading a team of Senior Supervisors involved in the supervision of life insurance companies. Responsibilities include planning, directing, overseeing supervisory activities while ensuring that work is risk focussed and consistent with resource requirements and availability.

The Director is also responsible for actively promoting OSFI values and contributing to OSFI management initiatives and priority projects. Other activities include the identification of emerging risks and trends across the life insurance industry, developing recommendations in response and providing support to the Life Insurance Group. Experience in life insurance and in leading, developing, and coaching staff, are key responsibilities of the position.

Intent of the process

This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates, which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles and requirements, security profiles and various tenures.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
● Recent and significant experience in identifying and managing risks for an insurance company at a senior level within an insurance company, consultancy firm, or regulatory body.
● Recent and significant experience in a broad range of various and complex related activities including financial analysis, risk management, underwriting, actuarial valuation and/or pricing, asset-liability management, strategic and financial planning.
● Proven management experience in leading, developing and coaching staff.
● Experience in working with and presenting to senior management and addressing their concerns and priorities.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
● A university degree, with specialization in commerce, accounting, business, finance, actuarial science, economics, mathematics or other relevant area OR an acceptable combination of education, experience and/or training.
● Achievement of a relevant professional designation such as FSA, FCIA, CFA, CPA, CA, CGA, CMA and FRM.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE
● In-depth knowledge of current and emerging key risks facing the life insurance industry.
● In-depth knowledge of the performance indicators used in the life insurance sector and the information and techniques used in their measurement and management.
● In-depth knowledge of the life insurance industry (including products, principles of risk transfer, asset/liability management, reserve and capital requirements, and related risks).
● Knowledge of new regulatory requirements, international developments, particularly as they relate to accounting, capital and risk management.
