Duties

All work completed by the incumbent of this position is under the direct supervision of a person registered with the applicable Provincial/territorial registering authority.

Delivers group treatment, individual counselling, crisis intervention, and follow up services.

Completes psychological interviews that determine the current needs of interviewed offenders in order to develop and deliver appropriate and effective treatments that promote the optimal mental health and emotional well being of offenders.

The incumbent is required to asses an offenders risk for suicide and take appropriate action as outlined in the Commissioner's Directives. Management and aftercare is provided in the form of psychological counselling, referrals to other mental health professionals and consultation with management.

Work environment

The work environment will be within a federal prison's mental health services department. The incumbent will be required to provide crisis, assessment and interventions with offenders utilizing approved mental health treatment models under the direct clinical supervision of a licensed psychologist.

The offender population may include some violent and unstable offenders with mental health or behavioural issues. Offenders may have minimum, medium and maximum security ratings.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of three years post-secondary education in Behavioural Science Technology or a degree or applied degree from a recognized university or college with specialization in psychology.

Degree equivalency

Experience interviewing, assessing, and conducting group or individual sessions with adults in at least one of the following settings: mental health, social service, correctional or educational.

Experience applying the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
