Information on accommodation for persons with disabilities
This is an anticipatory process. A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to permanently staff one bilingual position in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and one bilingual OR English position in Sidney, British Columbia. The pool may also be used to staff similar positions in Dartmouth, NS and Sidney, BC with various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, secondment, or assignment) and various linguistic profiles.

A covering letter in 5,000 words (maximum) "Every candidate is required to submit a cover letter, which clearly outlines that he/she meets each of the essential screening qualifications (i.e. Education and Experience Qualifications) as well as a résumé which is linked to the information in the cover letter. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that the qualification is met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Education:
- Successful completion of a post-secondary Library Technician program by December 31, 2018, OR an acceptable combination* of education and significant and recent experience**. NOTE: Although candidates without a diploma may be placed in a partially-qualified pool pending completion of their studies, only those who have successfully completed the Library Technician program will be considered for an appointment.
*Combination refers to a completion of any other post-secondary education and experience of similar work performed in a library environment.
**Significant and recent is defined as experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties for at least one (1) year within the last three (3) years.
Experience:
- Experience creating original catalogue records for library materials using an integrated library system
- Recent* experience using library computer applications such as integrated library systems (ILS) and library catalogues to maintain the library collections (*Recent is defined as experience normally gained within the last three (3) years.)
- Experience working with the Library of Congress classification system and filing rules used to organize library collections
- Experience searching online resources to locate information and library material in order to provide library client services or to catalogue library materials
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)

- Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system, and of filing rules and practices used in and to organize library collections
- Knowledge of Resource description and Access (RDA) cataloguing standard, MARC standards, and Library of Congress subject headings
- Knowledge of reference sources and information retrieval techniques
- Knowledge of library circulation practices and procedures
- Knowledge of interlibrary loan practices and procedures
