The Northern Forestry Centre is one of five research centres operated by the Canadian Forest Service. The centre is located in a beautiful park-like setting nestled on the edge of the community of Lansdowne in South Edmonton. Employees enjoy an in-house cafeteria as well as close proximity to the Whitemud Freeway, the University of Alberta, Southgate Mall and the South Campus/Fort Edmonton Park LRT station. For 46 years, the Northern Forestry Centre has contributed greatly to the Canadian Forest Service’s forest science research in the areas of wildland fire, climate change, boreal system ecology and land reclamation.
The Operational Programs Manager leads business development and knowledge exchange programs. The successful incumbent will develop relationships with indigenous communities across the Prairies and Northwest Territories to manage contribution programs, which help develop indigenous forestry enterprises. This position will also coordinate other bio-energy initiatives. The Operational Programs Manager is responsible for the regional knowledge exchange program, which focuses on sharing discoveries by Canadian Forest Service scientists with groups such as academia and industry. The successful candidate will also support various projects that could include coordination of environmental impact assessment science feedback, specific development projects, and participation on forestry related committees and boards.
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) English essential position that requires a reliability status security clearance.

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree in business administration, commerce, forestry, natural resource management or any other field related to the duties of the position.
Experience in developing and maintaining client relations with non-government or government organizations.
Experience in planning and leading resource programs.
Experience negotiating collaborative agreements or business ventures.
Graduation with a master's or doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a business or science field.
Experience dealing with administrative, human resource and financial procedures within the federal government.
Experience implementing natural resource based programs.
Experience using mediation or negotiating techniques to resolve impasses or conflicts with stakeholders.
